1. To collaborate in defence and security R&D&C with other related agencies both local and overseas.

2. To identify, plan and implement research activities related to current research needs that may have impact towards defence and security strength, defence education and knowledge development, professional human resource development, modern defence issues and other security issues.

3. To facilitate "Defence and Security Design House" through research outcome and commercialisation together with local and oversea industries.

4. To act as a "point-of-contact" for UPNM in providing professional services as well as advice regarding defence and security science, engineering and technology.

5. To place UPNM amongst the pioneer in defence and security research institutions at national, regional and international level in selected niche areas.
